Firefighter Gerard Marcheterre
Borodino Fire Department
Date of Death: March 6, 2010
Gerard was a 50‑year‑old firefighter who proudly served the Borodino Fire Department for 12 years. Though he had developmental disabilities, nothing ever slowed his drive to learn, train, and contribute. He took every class available and threw himself into each one. Instructors often spoke about his enthusiasm, his dedication, and the way he was always ready to lend a hand. Even when a course challenged him, he never stopped trying. Known affectionately as the “Mayor of Borodino,” Gerard was a familiar and uplifting presence throughout the community. He served on nearly all of the department’s committees and regularly helped with town committees and local events, always showing up with the same steady spirit. The fire service was Gerard’s passion. He worked tirelessly to welcome others in, proudly sharing what it meant to be part of the department. He took immense pride in his role, and his service became a defining part of who he was. Gerard died of natural causes after experiencing trouble breathing that led to cardiac arrest.
