Firefighter Robert Sharp
Cicero Fire Department
Date of Death: July 19, 1963
On Friday, July 19, 1963, at 5:05 a.m., the Cicero Fire Department was dispatched to a barn fire at the intersection of Route 31 and Lakeshore Road. Among the responders was Firefighter Robert Sharp, who had been with the department for only two weeks, answering the alarm alongside his father, Firefighter Raymond Sharp, a 15‑year veteran. As crews worked to bring the fire under control, efforts were made to move a hay conveyor to gain better access for extinguishment. During this operation, the conveyor suddenly overturned, falling onto Firefighter Robert Sharp. Crews rushed to free him—his father among them—and he was quickly transported by Moyers Corners Ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital. Despite their efforts, Robert Sharp was pronounced dead at 6:05 a.m., just one hour after the initial alarm.
