Firefighter Richard Spina died in the line of duty while operating at a fire on Elk Street in Syracuse. Assigned to the Rescue Company, he was working in the attic of a structure at 1074 Elk Street when the roof collapsed above him, causing critical traumatic injuries. He was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
